Okay, please forgive me. Once again I’m really behind in my blogging. I fired up my blog and just about had a heart attack when I saw that my last post was over a month ago. Eeeek! I have so many sessions to share that I’ve done since then – this is by far the busiest time of year, and I can’t wait to share all the gorgeous families I’ve been photographing.
First up, a gorgeous little newbie who shares the same name as my own teeny tiny – Scarlett. You might remember her beautiful mama from her maternity session. Scarlett has this gorgeous shock of dark hair that she could have inherited from either parent, and these perfect little pouty lips. Her big brother was quick to give her kisses, and give me some handsome smiles. After a few family shots, daddy took the big brother for a walk so we could get down to business photographing the new little girl, and she was perfectly good to me. I wish every newborn gave me such an easy time! Anyways, on to some of the images of this little family.

I’ve been so excited to share some of the images from this session. I met up with this little family a few weeks ago, and I had so much fun! They were so full of energy and had a great time interacting with each other. They were always smiling and laughing and I had no problem getting them to open up in front of the camera. I love sessions like this, where the family is so at ease with each other that all I can do is click, click, click, and they create the beauty shown in the images. I love shots where you see a mom genuinely breathing in the scent of her baby, where you see a family belly laughing together, exploring together, whispering, giggling, tickling, and just enjoying each other. It’s sessions like these that made me want to do what I do.

I met this little family a year and a half ago when I did their son’s newborn session. This time, they welcomed a sweet little girl into their family, and I was so excited to be there to photograph her at her newest and teeniest. Her big brother was absolutely the easiest baby I’d ever photographed – super sleepy and easy to pose – and little miss m was no different. She fought sleep a bit for us, but once she passed out, she passed out hard, and the rest of the shoot was a snap. When I was editing this session, my 7-year-old son walked past the computer and said “Wow – she’s beautiful!” I couldn’t agree more.

It’s admittedly been a very long time since I’ve updated my blog. My amazingly understanding clients have waited a very long time to see themselves on my blog while I sorted out stuff in my own life. My best friend recently passed away – just over 6 weeks ago now – and it’s been a long month and a half trying to get back into the groove of my real life. I’ve finally started to dive head-first into my work, and it feels great. I know my friend would want me to carry on with what I love, and focus on being positive and happy, so I’m trying to do just that. Working on these sessions and seeing the happiness and life in my work has been soul-cleansing. So not only do I thank my wonderful clients for being so understanding and patient, I also thank them a thousand times over for letting me be a part of these special, important times in their lives. It gives me so much strength and hope – makes the world feel new again. I’m truly a blessed woman.
Now on to the sessions! This beautiful little family was expecting their second child when I first met up with them. They wanted to capture a few shots of themselves as a family of three before it became a busy family of four. This gorgeous mom was a little apprehensive about getting her picture taken, but after awhile, this calm came over them…I could just tell how at peace they are, how absolutely in love they are with each other. I loved watching them interact with their son, and I loved how this dad-to-be looked at his beautiful wife. So much love in his face. I can’t wait to share some of these images.

Don’t forget to check back soon to see the sneak peek of this beautiful family’s new arrival!

A few weekends ago I met up with a cute little family for a baby session. Their daughter, little Olivia, was one of the cutest things I’d ever seen with her bright sparkling blue eyes and teeny tiny skinny jeans.
The expressions that this happy little girl came out with had us all giggling. She had serious faces, huge smiles, thoughtful eyebrows, even a little one-eyebrow raise. At one point, she even lifted her little hands to cover her face when I tried to snap her picture – my heart melted!! One thing that I love about shooting families with small children – and this family was no exception – is how the parents look at each other, and look at their child when it’s a quiet moment. It’s like they share some tiny piece of a miracle, and they can’t believe the little one is theirs. I know I say it just about every day, but I really, really love my job!

I’m back with more images, and I’m almost caught up! *waits for applause*
this session was challenging. and hilarious. little mr h pooped on EVERYTHING I had in my bag. Every blanket, every wrap, I think he even pooped on the hats. You would wonder how that might happen, but this boy had distance AND aim going for him. Daddy took big brother out to the pool during the session, so mom, baby and I were enjoying a very quiet house. I don’t know how many times I’d set up a shot, kneel down quietly, go to hit the shutter and mr h would blast a stream of poop across the blanket and floor that would make me jump 6 feet in the air and would probably make daddy very proud. I really shouldn’t say the session was challenging though, I just had to change blankets a lot – once he was asleep, he slept like a dream and let me pose him all sorts of ways. And this babe’s got pretty much THE most gorgeous lips I’ve ever seen on an infant. He’s gonna be a heartbreaker one day for sure!
Enough talk, on to the images!

I’m really excited to share this session with my blog readers! First, I just have to say – it’s situations like this that are the reason I absolutely love my job. When I shoot a couple’s maternity session (you might remember this gorgeous, happy couple from their maternity session), I get to anxiously await baby’s arrival with the family, I get one of the first announcements of baby’s appearance, and I get the honor and pleasure of meeting their little one within the first week of life. Every time I walk into a home where a baby has just arrived, I soak in the calm, the overwhelming feelings of happiness and peace…it’s amazing! I always feel so lucky to be a part of such a huge time in people’s lives, and I get to know them so well, it’s hard to say goodbye at the end of a session! Anyways, enough babble, right? I present to you sweet baby E, and all of her pursey-lipped, gorgeously long lashed, soft sweet skinned goodness. Isn’t she lovely??

And a huge thank you to all of my amazing, understanding clients who have been patiently waiting for their sneak peeks. Keep checking back as I’ll be updating so much more over the next week!

So back in April, my little sister (who you may remember from her beautiful maternity session) and her long-term boyfriend (and father of my sweet niece, Mia) jetted off to Las Vegas for a little vacation with friends. Mia stayed with us and we had an amazing week with her. At the end of the week, my sister comes back from her vacation and lo and behold, she’s sporting a big rock on her finger. Engaged? No. Married!! I just about died of a heart attack – part of me wanted to cry because I wasn’t able to be there, and the sickeningly, sappy sweet side of me wanted to cry because it was just so ridiculously romantic. I just had to do a session for them to celebrate, so a few weeks ago, they came back to the island from their home in Vancouver, so I could get them behind my camera again. As usual, we had a blast – these guys are HILARIOUS, not to mention pretty damn easy on the eyes – and I’m so excited to share these shots with everyone.

I am SO behind in blogging, it’s absolutely ridiculous. I’ve got so many amazing sessions that I can’t wait to share with everyone. I thought about doing one big blog post sharing a few shots from each session, but as I edit, I become more and more excited about the sessions I’ve done recently, and I think they each deserve their own post – so bear with me while I catch up.
First up is a fun newborn session I shot with a friend and budding photographer, Sam Covert. We “met” last year when I did her nephew’s newborn session, and we’ve been in contact since, chatting photography stuff and sharing images and techniques. She made her way to Victoria to visit family, and we couldn’t resist the opportunity to pair up and shoot an impromptu mentoring session. We were extremely lucky to have this cute little dude fall into our lap, thanks to his amazing mom being willing to put him in our hands. I had a blast shooting with Sam, and chatting with little T’s gorgeous mama, Caron. It was just a super fun day! I can’t wait to share a few of the images – enjoy!

I am SO behind in blogging, which is just plain not normal for me! I’ve had an insanely busy couple of weeks, and I’m so excited to start sharing some of the sessions I’ve been doing. First up is an adorable couple that I met with to do a maternity session. They came into Victoria all the way from Parksville to do some baby shopping and have a relaxing weekend away together – the session was actually a surprise gift for the mama-to-be from her hubby…isn’t that sweet? And this gorgeous, GORGEOUS mom is very camera-shy and doesn’t like having her picture taken, although I have no idea why – look at her! And you’d never guess she was nervous infront of the camera, with how beautiful and glowing she looks in these shots.
I guess I should quit the babbling and get to the images, I’m so excited to share!
